Dent out to cause more damage against Fish in all-American clash

Published:

Fresh from his win over James Blake, the resurgent Taylor Dent is ready to claim Mardy Fish as his second major scalp at the Atlanta Tennis Championships.

Dent, who hardly played between 2006 and 2008 because of injury, has climbed back to a world ranking of 94, having languished at 879 two seasons ago.

And as he inches nearer his career-high ranking of 21, Dent is dreaming of a fifth tour title in Atlanta. He is 9/4 to beat Fish today.

The two players have only met each other once before, and Dent was the winner in straight sets at a Sydney event in 2005. He is 9/2 to win in two sets again in Atlanta.

Both men are seasoned ATP Tour campaigners, having played a mammoth 664 matches between them in their respective careers.

They have four career titles apiece, and Fish is among the favourites to add the Atlanta event to his trophy cabinet, as he is 11/2 to win the competition.

It could also be worth betting on Dent at 25/1, as his thunderous serve is proving to be too hot to handle for his opponents.

Andy Roddick is also in action in Atlanta, and he is 8/15 to beat Xavier Malisse in straight sets, while the Belgian Malisse is 7/2 to win the match.

Roddick is the 6/5 favourite to win the Atlanta Tennis Championships, and as he targets a second US Open win next month, he will be looking to gather momentum with victory against Malisse.

Another contender in Atlanta, John Isner, is 2/7 to beat Michael Russell. See the full Atlanta Tennis Championships market.
