Champions League winner Hitzfeld in talks to take Fulham hot seat

Fulham have held talks with the double Champions League-winning manager Ottmar Hitzfeld about replacing Roy Hodgson at the Craven Cottage helm.

Currently in charge of Switzerland, Hitzfeld is, at 3/1, the second favourite to become the next permanent Fulham manager.

His club record is among the finest in Europe, as he is one of only three managers to win the Champions League with two separate clubs, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Hitzfeld has also enjoyed quite a successful tenure as Swiss boss, guiding them through a successful qualifying campaign for the World Cup and masterminding a 1-0 win over Spain.

Hodgson is himself a former manager of Switzerland, and Stuart Baxter, the current boss of another of Hodgson’s former sides Finland, is 7/1 to land the Fulham job.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is the 8/11 favourite to be named Fulham’s next permanent manager, but the former England chief’s wage demands could prove to be a sticking point.

Another candidate for the Craven Cottage hot seat is USA coach Bob Bradley, who is 6/1 to be the next full-time boss at Fulham.

Bob’s son and USA midfielder, Michael, has also been linked with a move to Fulham, though Premier League newcomers Blackpool are also rumoured to be interested in signing the Borussia Munchengladbach player.

Cardiff boss Dave Jones and Slaven Bilic, who is currently Croatia’s manager, are also in the running, and they are priced at 7/1 to take the reins at Fulham.

Who do you think will take over at the Cottage? Roberto Di Matteo is 16/1 to become Fulham manager. See the full Next Permanent Fulham Manager market.
