USA vs Algeria – teams announced

Published:

The USA have rung the changes for their final Group C clash with Algeria, which kicks off at 3pm.

Oguchi Onyewu makes way for Jonathan Bornstein in defence, while Maurice Edu is recalled in midfield. Striker Robbie Findley is suspended, so Herculez Gomez will start alongside Jozy Altidore in attack.

The central midfield partnership of Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan is unchanged and Donovan, who inspired the USA’s dramatic comeback in their 2-2 draw with Slovenia, is 5/1 to score first.

Algeria’s second choice goalkeeper Rais Mbholi retains his place having kept a clean sheet against England.

Striker Abdelkader Ghezzal, meanwhile, is available after serving a one-match suspension against England, but he is left on the bench.

Both sides are targeting a place in the last 16, and it is the USA (a convincing 5/6 to win) who seem the favourites to reach the second round.

The confirmed starting line-ups are:

USA: Howard; Bornstein, DeMerit, Cherundolo, Bocanegra (Captain); Edu, Donovan, Bradley, Dempsey; Gomez, Altidore

Algeria: Mbholi; Halliche, Yahia (Captain), Bougherra, Belhadj; Matmour, Kadir, Yebda, Lacen, Ziani; Djebbour
