Spain vs Portugal – teams announced

Published:

As expected, the Spanish team remains the same, with Torres now fashioned as a goal provider rather than a goal scorer, in the manner of a Teddy Sheringham/Peter Beardsley.

The goal scoring honours seem to be going to David Villa, who Spain have much to thank for, after he turned the tide against Chile with a opportunist goal from rather a long way out.

Having opened the scoring against Honduras and Chile, he looks a decent bet as the first scorer, with odds of 7/2.

Of course, should Torres somehow rediscover his scoring form after a particularly quiet World Cup so far, his odds of opening his account during this one are 11/8.

As for Portugal, they will no doubt be looking to their star man for inspiration. Cristiano odds of inscribing himself on the scoresheet are 7/4, or 11/2 for those who fancy him as the first scorer.

The confirmed starting line ups are:

Spain: Casillas; Ramos, Pique, Puyol, Capdevila, Iniesta, Xavi, Sergio, Alonso, David Villa, Torres

Portugal: Eduardo; R. Costa, B. Alves, Carvalho, Coentrao, Tiago, Pepe, Meireles, Ronaldo, Almeida, Simao
