South Korea vs Greece – The two Parks could thrive
Published:Greece and South Korea have had their share of unexpected success at recent tournaments and there will be little separating them in their match on Saturday at 3pm.
The semi-finalists from eight years ago are paper-thin favourites to win, at 13/8, compared to the Euro 2004 winners, at 7/4. The draw is 21/10.
The best either can realistically hope for in Group B is runners-up spot behind Argentina (7/1 to win the World Cup) and this match will be a big marker for who can go further.
The Asian team look to have the beating of the Europeans, though, having recorded recent wins against fellow World Cup sides Ivory Coast and Japan.
In contrast the Greeks have only scored three goals in five matches and lost to Senegal, Paraguay and drew with North Korea in their last three games.
The stand out name in either side is Park Ji Sung and the Manchester United winger has said he believes a round of 16 appearance for his country is possible. Park is an appetising 14/1 to score first, he did it against Japan.
Another Park looking to impress is AS Monaco’s Park Chu Young. He scored eight goals for his club last season and is on Fulham’s radar having also notched 14 times in 38 internationals.
He’s 7/1 to grab the first goal and is also available at 16/1 to be the Rest of the World top scorer.
Greece meanwhile will start with Celtic’s Georgios Samaras up front but the 25-year-old has scored one in 20 for club and country. He’s 5/2 to break that run by scoring at any time against South Korea.
Indeed, goals will be limited here. South Korea haven’t scored in two after consecutive 1-0 defeats by Belarus and Spain, while Greece failed to register in five of their last ten games.
