Mexico vs Uruguay – teams announced

Published:

Uruguay have named a full-strength side as they show no signs of settling for a draw against Mexico. Kick-off is at 3pm.

Many are expecting the sides to coast to a draw (8/11) but, with Argentina waiting in the last 16 for the Group A runners-up, both teams will be chasing victory.

A draw will be enough for Uruguay to qualify as group winners but, with such a potent strike force at their disposal, they are targeting a win.

Luis Suarez was in deadly form for Ajax last season as he scored a whopping 49 goals in all competitions, and he is a tempting 8/1 to score first today.

Cuauhtemoc Blanco wins a recall to the Mexico starting XI, and he has also been handed the captaincy. The 37-year-old striker is 9/1 to open the scoring.

Carlos Vela misses this vital encounter with a hamstring injury.

The confirmed starting line-ups are:

Mexico: Perez; Osorio, Moreno, Rodriguez, Salcido; Marquez, Torrado, Guardado, Giovani; Blanco (Captain), Franco

Uruguay: Muslera; Fucile, Victorino, Lugano (Captain), M. Pereira; Perez, Arevalo Rios, M. Pereira, Cavani; Suarez, Forlan
