Kaita sending off helps Greece to unlikely victory
Published:After a poor first match, Greece put themselves back on track with a 2-1 win over Nigeria, playing the majority of the match against ten men.
Nigeria’s Kalu Uche’s opened the scoring with a free kick, which found the Greek keeper Tzorvas making the curious decision to jump away from the ball, possibly fearing a deflection, or just seriously mistrusting the controversial World Cup ball.
Just over half an hour in, Kaita made life much easier for Greece with a silly sending off, after raising his foot in anger.
With that, Greece took the bull by the horns, with Salpingidis scoring from a massive deflection shortly before half time, and Torosidis making it 2-1 with twenty minutes to go.
Everything will now ride on Nigeria’s match against South Korea.
