Ghezzal can provide goals for shock Algeria progress

Little is expected of Algeria at this World Cup – they are an ominous 1/6 to be eliminated at the group stage – but England’s Group C rivals are ready to cause a stir.

And their Siena forward Abdelkader Ghezzal, who scored two goals during their qualification campaign, will be the man to lead the way.

The 25-year-old features on a regular basis for the Serie A side, and his European pedigree makes him a good bet at 5/2 to be Algeria’s top scorer.

Algeria face the United Arab Emirates on Saturday in their final warm-up match before taking on Slovenia in on June 13th.

This first game will be a huge occasion for Algeria, as a win over Slovenia could potentially help them secure a surprise second place in Group C.

At 2/1, Algeria are capable of beating a Slovenia side whose manager has professed that they value playing attractive football more than they do winning.

Algeria’s hopes of making it through the group stages will depend heavily on Wolfsburg midfielder Karim Ziani’s ability to dictate proceedings.

Ziani boasts considerable Champions League experience, having played for Marseille as well as his current German employers.

And along with Ghezzal, Ziani will be integral to The Desert Foxes’ attempt to recreate the form which saw them reach the semi-finals of this year’s African Cup of Nations.
