Cameroon vs Holland – Robben to leave Lions with no pride

With Holland already qualified and Cameroon already home this game has little riding on it.

But with sprightly young talents waiting, quite literally, in the wings, at least the Oranjes can be relied upon to ensure an exciting game. They are 7/1 fourth favourites to lift the trophy.

Bert Van Marwijk’s side have won both their games so far and are 4/5 to complete a hat-trick, a result made likelier if Arjen Robben decides he wants to play.

The boss has left it to his star winger to choose whether to start or not and with Robben being the limelight-lover that he is, bettors should expect it to be the former.

The Bayern Munich player had an excellent end to the season for his club and will surely want to show the world the long-range strikes (but perhaps not the leggings) that became his trademark in the Champions League. He would be a good bet for first goalscorer at 5/1.

The Dutch manager has not yet revealed his intentions, but the question of whether to select first-choice players, given the chance they might pick up suspensions and injuries, must be on his mind.

They seem assured of a top place finish, so logic suggests he will hand starts to fringe players Eljero Elia, Imbrahim Afellay and Klaas Jan Huntelaar.

All three have come on in previous games and made impacts with the Hamburg winger Elia (7/1 to score first) looking particulalry potent. With Robin Van Persie (7/2) one yellow away from a ban Huntelaar (9/2) could start up front.

Paul Le Guen’s Cameroon have only been out-done by France on the squad-dissaray-and-poor-results front, and are an understandably outside chance of 7/2 to beat Holland. The draw is 5/2.

With the exit door looming for the former Rangers boss, it’s anyone’s guess which team he will field but a start for Samuel Eto’o is guaranteed. He’s a good 6/1 price to score first – a feat he achieved last time out.

Holland have perfected the art of keeping a clean sheet – seven out of their last 11 matches – and haven’t been beaten in 23 games. A similar pattern should emerge here with a 2-0 win looking likeliest, bearing in mind the Dutch reserves wanting to impress. It’s 13/2.
