England vs USA – Americans can forget about winding Rooney up

| 12.06.2010

England vs USA, Saturday 7.30pm

Much is being made of Wayne Rooney’s hot head, particularly in light of his outburst at the referee during the warm up against Platinum Stars – the current market for the red card to be shown during the match finds odds of 7/2 that it will.

The word on the street is that the USA are going to go all out to wind up the man with England’s hopes resting on his shoulders, citing Wayne Rooney’s legendary temper as a possible weak link in the England team.

Unfortunately for the USA, Rooney has managed to curb his fury in recent seasons, having not received a single red card during the latest campaign.

In fact, whilst many will recall his sending off against Portugal in the last World Cup, Rooney hasn’t received a single yellow card in his last 17 England matches.

He has, however, scored plenty of goals in that time – including nine goals during the qualifying campaign.

Hence, looking at the market for What will happen to Wayne Rooney first, “scoring a goal” at 3/1 looks like better value than “to receive a card” at 5/1.

That said, his last yellow card came in a match against the USA.

Can Rooney keep his cool this time around? See the full England vs USA market.
