Rebecca Ferguson has quickly emerged as a favourite in the X Factor betting as the unassuming single mother of two starts to appeal to the voting public.

The 24-year-old from Liverpool is a qualified legal secretary but had been unsuccessful when auditioning for the X Factor previously.

2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke also previously failed in her auditions before coming back to win the competition and Rebecca and Alexandra draw many comparisons.

Rebecca has her heart set on performing and her determination took her to New York where she auditioned for P Diddy as she searched for a spot on the American rapper’s ‘Starmaker’ show.

Rebecca was unsuccessful in America, but her auditioning songs of Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change is Gonna Come’, Corrine Bailey Rae’s ‘Like a Star’ and ‘Fireflies’ by Owl City were of sufficient quality to see Cheryl Cole put her through as one of her final three girls.

Her week two performance of Nina Simone’s ‘Feelin’ Good’ drew plaudits from all of the judges and even had Louis suggesting that Rebecca is a star in the making so early on in the show.

Rebecca’s singing style is similar to that of Simone’s, with a very soulful and mellifluous tone that could see her progress into a bluesy pop singer.

Rebecca has been cut to 6/1 to win the X Factor after week two’s performance.

Rebecca is also the 11/10 favourite to be the top girl ahead of Cher Lloyd, Treyc Cohen and Katie Waissel.

However Rebecca’s shy nature and lack of confidence may mean she suffers from nerves as the competition starts to get more competitive.

As her mentor, Cheryl will need to help Rebecca combat these nerves if the Liverpudlian is to reign supreme on the X Factor show.
