Christopher Maloney continues to seem destined to reach the final of the X Factor and backing him and Jahmene Douglas to finish as the top two is looking an increasingly tempting proposition.
A £1,000 bet was placed on a Chris victory last week and if anything, this week’s show would have only convinced his support to keep voting.
He was largely criticised by the judges, being called “The Karaoke King” and the equivalent of Heart Radio and this will give off the impression to voters that Chris needs their votes.
While for the second week in succession when the results were declared, he was left until last to be told that he was safe for another week.
Although Dermot O’Leary regularly tells voters that acts are put through in “no particular order”, many viewers will see Chris going through last as a nod that he was third bottom in the vote and therefore more at risk than some other contestants.
He is still an attractive 14/1 to win the X Factor, but it could be worth combining him with another act in the hope of securing bigger profits with a straight forecast.
Ella Henderson was the early frontrunner as was even odds-on to triumph at one point.
But she has gone slightly stale in recent weeks and it may be the case that she peaked too soon.
Jahmene Douglas has joined Ella at 13/8 to win the X Factor and has grown throughout the competition in terms of performance and his own personal confidence.
James Arthur is another that always impresses and there is a growing feeling that it will be an all-male final of Christopher, Jahmene and James.
As a result, there seems to be some mileage in taking the 25/1 that Chris wins and Jahmene finishes second, while the same two in the alternate order is 16/1.
Meanwhile, punters believing that Chris’ bubble will burst in the coming weeks may prefer the 5/1 that Jahmene beats James to the X Factor crown.
