The Golden Globe nominations are upon us, and our traders reckon we could see Kenneth Lonergan’s ‘Manchester by the Sea’ scoop both the Best Film and Best Film Drama Actor awards.

Casey Affleck’s stellar performance as janitor Lee Chandler in the Massachusetts-based drama sees his best actor odds priced at just 4/7.

Denzel Washington looks his most serious contender at 15/8 following his outstanding turn in ‘Fences’, an adaptation of August Wilson’s 1985 play of the same name, with Joel Edgerton and Andrew Garfield 12/1 outsiders for the gong.

In the best film betting, ‘Manchester…’ is narrowly odds-against at 5/4, with the energetic and moving crime drama ‘Moonlight’ the current market favourite at Evens.

Garth Davis’ directorial debut ‘Lion’ is next up at 10s, with ‘Hacksaw Ridge’ and ‘Hell or High Water’ rounding out the betting at 12/1 apiece.

For those confident that ‘Manchester by the Sea’ can take a prestigious double, the bookies are offering 7/4 for both Affleck and the masterful movie to win their categories.

The only sure-fire thing anywhere in the betting looks to be Natalie Portman winning the Best Drama Actress category, with 1/4 for the 2011 Oscar Winner to pick up another major honour for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy Onassis in Pablo Larrain’s sumptuously shot ‘Jackie’.

Amy Adams – best known for her recurring film roles as Lois Lane – is 6/1 to take home the prize for her turn in ‘Arrival’, but it will take a superhuman effort to overcome Portman’s huge favouritism.

Veteran French star Isabelle Huppert is next up at 7/1, with the versatile Ruth Negga priced at 10s to upset the odds, following her moving performance in Jeff Nichols’ moving release, ‘Loving’.

However, there could be value in a flutter on Jessica Chastain at 12/1, with the star of political thriller ‘Miss Sloane’ chalking up her fourth Golden Globe nomination in six years – winning the award back in 2013.
