Andy Murray to win BBC SPOTY

Andy Murray is now the odds-on favourite to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year following his latest Olympics success.

Sunday’s sensational medal haul has seen a whole host of Olympians come into the SPOTY frame.

However, it’s the tennis superstar who leads the way at 5/6, but hot on Murray’s heels is Mo Farah at 4/1.

Double gold medallist Max Whitlock has seen his odds slashed all the way down into just 5/1, or there’s 10/1 on offer Jason Kenny is given the nod whilst it’s a 12/1 chance his fiance Laura Trott is crowned the winner.

And finally, it’s now just a 2/1 chance Murray is knighted in the 2016-17 New Year’s Honours list.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Despite there still being a fair few months to go it’s looking increasingly impossible to see any one outside of Rio 2016 emerge as this year’s BBC SPOTY winner.”

She added: “With both Wimbledon and Olympic gold under his belt the odds suggest it’s a case of when and not if we’re calling him Sir Andy.”
