Caroline Wozniacki crashed out of the Sony Ericsson Open last night after losing in three sets to Andrea Petkovic, and the German has now been installed as the 12/1 favourite to win the tournament.
The top half of the women’s draw has been completely shaken up with the loss of the top seed and Jelena Jankovic (11/2 to win) is now the highest ranked player in the top half.
It paves the way for Maria Sharapova to make her first final in seven months and the Russian is the 4/1 third favourite to win this week.
On the last occasion Sharapova reached the final, she lost in three sets to Kim Clijsters and Clijsters is looking to book her spot in the quarter-final when she plays the back to form Ana Ivanovic later today.
Kim Clijsters vs Ana Ivanovic
Clijsters is 1/4 to beat Ivanovic today and considering the Belgian has never lost to Ivanovic in four matches, it seems quite a big price.
Of those four matches, two have been won comfortably by Clijsters with Ivanovic failing to turn up for one match, and retiring in the other.
While Ivanovic is finally getting back to what looks like her best form, Clijsters looks a steal at 4/6 to win 2-0 and the Belgian is the one to beat as the Sony Ericsson Open enters the latter stages.
With the lower half of the draw being more competitive – Clijsters, Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka and Anastasia Radwanska are all competing for a place in the final – punters can still get a good price on Clijsters winning despite Wozniacki’s exit.
Clijsters is the 9/4 favourite with Zvonareva, her likely semi-final opponent, second favourite at 7/2.
