The world’s top eight female tennis players, minus Serena and Venus Williams, take to the Doha courts this week in the Women’s Tennis Association season finale.
World number one Caroline Wozniacki takes on Elena Dementieva and the Dane is the 2/5 favourite to beat an out of sorts Dementieva.
Since losing to Wozniacki in the Pan Pacific Open final at the start of October, Dementieva has lost to Ana Ivanovic before withdrawing from the BGL Luxembourg Open with an ankle injury.
The decision to retire in Luxembourg was taken with a view to this week’s Sony Ericsson Championships, but the ankle injury continues to affect Dementieva and at 7/4, she’s best avoided in the WTA betting market.
The two have faced each other twice this year with Wozniacki winning both ties 2-1, and the Dane is 13/5 to win 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
World number two Vera Zvonareva is a big price at 11/2 to win the tournament, and she opens her challenge against Jelena Jankovic who is also carrying injury concerns.
The two share a 6-6 head-to-head record but Zvonareva has won both matches between the two this year and has made the final in three of her last four tournaments, including the US Open, and she is 1/5 to beat Jankovic.
Jankovic has struggled for form and comes into the event having lost to world number 172 Zarina Diyas last week and Zvonareva should win comfortably – the Russian is 4/7 to win 2-0.
The most intriguing match-up is Francesca Schiavone against Sam Stosur and the two are inseparable in the betting at 5/6.
Stosur holds a 4-2 head-to-head record over her Italian opponent but lost to Schiavone earlier this year.
On the six occasions these two have met the winner has won in straight sets, and it’s 5/6 for the total games to be under 22.5.
Wozniack is 8/13 to top the Maroon group. See the full Sony Ericsson Championships betting odds here.
