After stunning Kim Clijsters in the Open GDF Suez last week, Petra Kvitova is certainly one to watch this week and she opens her Dubai Duty Free Championships challenge against Ayumi Morita.
Japanese Morita is a promising youngster on the WTA tour and is currently playing off her highest ranking of 57, but Kvitova notched her second tour win last week and should have no trouble dispatching with the Japanese prodigy and is 4/11 to win.
In a tournament which has seen eight of the world’s top ten arrive in Dubai, it’s going to be difficult for Kvitova to register consecutive tournament wins, and Caroline Wozniacki, Vera Zvonareva and Australian Open runner-up Li Na are all in action.
Tuesday sees Ana Ivanovic open her Dubai challenge against Patty Schynder in arguably the tie of the round, and the world number 19 Ivanovic will have her work cut-out against the experienced Swiss.
Nine times the two have met and Ivanovic has won all five of their previous meetings to hold a 5-4 head-to head advantage over the world number 44, which suggests punters should kop a load of the 2/7 for Ivanovic to win.
Like Kvitova, Daniela Hantuchova comes into this tournament on the back of a tour win last week and the Slovak is a decent price at 8/15 to beat world number 51 Anna Chakvetadze.
However the Russian has won the last two matches between the two and will prove a stiff first round test, but Hantuchova has finally returned to the winners circle and will be full of confidence.
In a repeat of their Australian Open second round match, Klara Zakopalova and Lucie Safarova face off with Safarova the 4/5 favourite to repeat her Melbourne success.
A £25 stake on Safarova beating Zakopalova would return £45. New customers can sign up here for a free tennis bet worth £25.
