Serena Williams is the deserved Wimbledon favourite after her success over defending champion Petra Kvitova, but things will not get any easier in the semi finals.
Williams steps out on court against reigning Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka, while there is guaranteed to be a first-time Wimbledon finalist from the other semi with Angelique Kerber facing world number three Agnieszka Radwanska.
Serena Williams to beat Victoria Azarenka @ 8/15
Azarenka may have stated that she only focuses on the chance to make history and not dwell on past results, but it is hard to believe that she is not somewhat concerned about her past record with Williams.
Williams has won seven of their eight career meetings, including all of the last five.
One of these came in their only previous encounter at Wimbledon in 2009 and the only showdown this year, when Williams triumphed in straight sets in the final on the clay of Madrid.
The fact that Williams served so well in dumping out defending champion Kvitova in the quarter finals also boosts her chances and a repeat against Azarenka should see her into the final.
Azarenka is the only one of the semi finalists not to drop a set at Wimbledon this year yet and if she is to have a chance, has to hold her own in the early stages.
Angelique Kerber to beat Agnieszka Radwanska @ 4/6
This promises to be a particularly close match and the 6/5 on offer that the semi-final goes the full distance of three sets looks especially great value.
Of the top ten players in the WTA rankings this year, Radwanska has only been beaten by Azarenka and this has happened on six occasions.
This bodes well for her chances, but Kerber has impressed in knocking out the better players at Wimbledon.
Radwanska has not really beaten anyone of any substance, while Kerber has been busy eliminating the likes of Kim Clijsters and Sabine Lisicki.
The head-to-head record reads 2-2, but the major difference in the end could come down to the success of Radwanska’s second serve, which may prove the biggest weakness on show.
