Gael Monfils let us down yesterday as we attempted to pick the winner of every match in the men’s draw, but today we’re confident of getting it right in the women’s draw.

Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki and Vera Zvonareva are all in action today and they all feature as winners in our accumulator – Sharapova’s price looks so good that we’ve made her today’s Safety Net bet.

The action kicks off on the courts of Flushing Meadows at around 4pm today and Lucie Safarova, Angelique Kerber and Zvonareva can all get us off to a great start.

Sharapova is likely to arrive on court at around 6.05pm and she can keep the run going before Shuai Peng puts Julia Georges in her place at around 7pm.

Sabine Lisicki may just be the banker of the day considering she’s playing the world number 79 Irina Falconi and at 1/12, her odds certainly reflect that.

Come midnight and an office favourite Maria Kirilenko is an action but she’s up against a tough competitor in Christina Mchale and the American can flourish in front of a home crowd.

Mchale beat Wozniacki in Cincinnati a fortnight ago and she can build on that performance today to advance in to the fourth round.

While that match is likely to be tight, so should the final game of the day between Nadia Petrova and Sam Stosur be.

Stosur won their only meeting this year on the grass courts of Eastbourne, but before that Petrova had won all four clashes between the two – including on the hard courts of New Haven last year and in the 2004 US Open.

Petrova is the 13/8 underdog today and at that price we think she’s the value bet of the day in the women’s US Open draw.

US Open selections
Sabine Lisicki to beat Irina Falconi @ 1/12
Vera Zvonareva to beat Anabel Medina Garrigues @ 1/8
Maria Sharapova to beat Flavia Pennetta @ 1/4
Angelique Kerber to beat Alla Kudryavtseva @ 4/11
Lucie Safarova to beat Monica Niculescu @ 1/2
Shuai Peng to beat Julia Goerges @ 8/15
Christina Mchale to beat Maria Kirilenko @ 8/11
Nadia Petrova to beat Samantha Stosur @ 13/8
