Taking on all 16 matches in the men’s draw of the US Open is a big ask, but today’s accumulator is confident the favourites are in for a good day.

It would be silly to assume that all 16 favourites are going to progress today, but having studied the form we can only see two real possibilities of upsets today, and they are in the form of Tommy Haas beating Alejandro Falla and Bernard Tomic beating Marin Cilic.

Haas has a 3-1 head-to-head record over Falla and while the German has fallen to 475 in the rankings, he looks a solid bet at 1/1 having beaten Falla in the first round of the 2009 US Open.

Falla came through a tough five-set first round match with Viktor Troicki while Haas defeated Jonathan Dasnieres de Veigy in four sets and the German will be fresher for today’s game.

Neither player has shown strong hard court form so Haas, with the psychological edge should win today.

Tomic and Cilic’s match is hard to call but Cilic is so inconsistent that we’d rather place out faith in Tomic’s doggedness pulling him through.

In last year’s US Open the two played out an epic five-setter which Cilic won and Tomic will be looking for revenge today.

A tie against Roger Federer is likely to await in the next round and that motivation can spur Tomic into the third round.

Nikolay Davydenko looks way too short to back at 1/6 but his opponent Potito Starace has awful hard court form and as much as we’d like to oppose Davydenko, it’s hard to see him being defeated today.

Our 16-selection accumulator returns £34.64 for a £1 stake.
