The Safety Net – Tipsarevic to end Nishikori’s run at Eastbourne

The Safety Net got back to winning ways yesterday thanks to Transfer’s five-length victory at Warwick, but we’re turning our attentions away from horse racing and to tennis for today’s Safety Net.

There are a handful of odds-on horses at Ayr, Goodwood and Redcar but we’re not willing to bank on these horses in maiden stakes, and it could be a bad day for favourite backers away from Royal Ascot.

Having been hurt pretty badly by So You Think’s defeat at Ascot on Wednesday, we’re shying away from the big meeting once again although there are a number of favourites who look good for a win today.

Instead we are turning our attention to the semi-finals of the AEGON International at Eastbourne and specifically, the match between Janko Tipsarevic and Kei Nishikori.

Being a semi-final, this is not going to be an easy task for our Safety Net banker, but we believe Tipsarevic has the necessary game to seal his place in the final.

At 2/5 to win, we will be staking £50 of the £135.50 Safety Net bank on Tipsarevic and we’re confident he’s up to the task.

The two players have met three times before and all of those matches have come this year with Tipsarevic winning all three, the two hard court matches in straight sets and the one clay court match in three sets.

They have never met on grass but while Nishikori has progressed to the semi-final of the AEGON International, his record on grass is poor having lost in the first round proper of his last six grass tournaments.

Nishikori upset the odds to beat Radek Stepanek in the quarter-final but in Tipsarevic, he finds a guy ranked 29 places higher than him and 27 places higher than Stepanek.

Tipsarevic’s three wins over Nishikori this year will be a huge psychological boost and the Serb should duly oblige at 2/5.

Current Status:
Bank: £135.50
Today’s stake: £50
Best case scenario: £155.50
Worst case scenario: £85.50

Last Safety Net bet: Transfer won the 16:45 at Warwick at 1/2

Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
