Novak Djokovic’s incredible unbeaten run came to an end just as the Serb was on course to wrestle the world number one spot from Rafael Nadal.

Nadal remains the world number one and as a result of Djokovic’s defeat, is now the 4/9 favourite to beat Federer and win his sixth French Open title in seven years.

The Spaniard has defied all talk of poor form to reach the French Open final and victory over Andy Murray in the quarter-final means Nadal has lost just one of his 45 French Open matches.

Roger Federer delighted the tennis purists when defeating Djokovic at Roland Garros last night and the tennis world is now preparing for another epic encounter in Sunday’s French Open final.

Federer is the outsider at 7/4 but the Swiss star has been in fine fettle at this year’s French Open, dropping just the one set to Djokovic, and many will fancy his chances against Nadal.

The betting would suggest otherwise as these two prepare to meet for the 25th time in their career, and with 16 wins to Federer’s eight, Nadal certainly looks the better bet.

On clay the two have met 13 times and Federer has only managed two wins in those encounters and he is really up against it on Sunday.

Madrid hosted the most recent battle between these two greats and Federer took the first set 7-5 before Nadal showed his class, winning the next two sets 6-1, 6-3.

Federer is 11/8 to make a winning start to the match by taking the first set and Nadal has won three of his four meetings with Federer at Roland Garros 3-1, losing the first set on one occasion.

Their most recent meeting on the clay courts of Roland Garros saw Nadal run out a 3-0 winner but while the world number one is favoured to win 3-0 at 2/1, the value looks to be backing the Spaniard at 11/4 to win 3-1.
