Twitter reveals palpitation ahead of 2016’s first Dundee Derby

For the city of Dundee, 2016 is sure to get off to a barnstorming start with the townspeople’s two footballing rivals going head-to-head so early in the year.

And both teams go into the match at Dens Park desperately seeking a victory, not just for bragging rights, but for Ladbrokes Premiership survival.

Paul Hartley’s Dundee are the 10/11 favourites, with United making the short trip from Tannadice of just 200 yards or so as 12/5 outsiders.

Last season United came out on top in four of their five meetings in league and cup, but the opening clash this term ended in a draw, a repeat of which is 27/10.

It’s been a difficult season for both sides, with Hartley’s outfit slipping into a relegation battle, while the Terrrors have claimed just two wins all season and are rapidly running out of time to claw back the 10-point deficit to the teams above them.

Such has been their form this season that some on social media think this will be a formality for the hosts.

But with the Dark Blues wining just one of their last 10 fixtures, others fancy this could be too close to call.

Dundee’s game at home to Celtic in midweek was postponed due to bad weather from Storm Frank, but fans weren’t too disappointed, seemingly preferring the lack of pitch action to aid the chances of the Derby going ahead.

But whatever the weather, this derby is all about anticipation, the hope, the joy, the despair, and the memories that come with it all.

And sometimes this historic fixture takes its emotions overseas too.
