A clear transfer strategy is emerging at Rangers this summer, as Mark Warburton prepares his side for their return to the Ladbrokes Premiership.
With Joey Barton, Clint Hill and Jordan Rossiter among those already signed and through the door, it seems that players with experience of the English top-flight are on the wanted list to help the Gers in the Scottish equivalent.
In keeping with that plan, the club are reportedly in talks with 29-year-old defender Adrian Mariappa, who will be released by Crystal Palace when his contract expires at the end of June.
The centre-back, who has played in the Premier League with Watford, Reading and the Eagles, has made 49 appearances for the London side in all competitions across the last three seasons and will be looking for more regular playing time as he considers his next move.
Should that next step be Rangers, it would be another sizeable coup for the Glasgow giants, having already lured Barton, Hill and Rossiter north of the border.
A Jamaica international and FA Cup final appearance maker last term, Mariappa might form a hugely experienced centre-half pairing with former QPR captain Hill should he join forces with Warburton’s men.
Hill played three campaigns in the English top flight with the Hoops before switching to Rangers last week, while Barton has a wealth of experience from around Europe, let alone England, during his career.
At 19, Rossiter is from the opposite end of the spectrum, but was highly-rated enough to be given three run-outs in the Europa League for Liverpool last season.
We make Rangers the 3/1 second-favourites to win the Ladbrokes Premiership this season, behind Old Firm rivals Celtic, who are a 1/4 chance.
