Kilmarnock gave their Ladbrokes Premiership survival hopes a shot in the arm over the weekend with a convincing win over drop rivals Motherwell.

A close first half ended goalless, with the game on course to end as a draw, before stunning second-half goals from Greg Kiltie and Craig Slater earned all three points for the visitors.

Motherwell are now a point behind Killie in 11th place and while they have a game in hand over their rivals a run of six matches without a win will not fill fans with confidence.

Elsewhere in the fight for survival Dundee United kept up their mini revival with a 0-0 draw away to Hamilton.

United were riding a rare wave of confidence having beaten Killie 5-1 last time out but had to settle for a point.

The Terrors are now 12 points adrift of Well but Mixu Paatenleinan’s men would have been happy with a point after goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima saved a late Ali Crawford penalty to keep a clean sheet.

While United held on for a share of the spoils local rivals Dundee enhanced their top six credentials with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone to leapfrog the Saints into fifth place.

Kane Hemmings was the man for the Dark Blues once more, opening the scoring after 21 minutes and putting the game to bed just after the restart.

Greg Stewart threatened to make it a rout but his effort cannoned back off the crossbar to keep the score respectable.

St Johnstone have now claimed just two of the last 21 points available and will need to arrest that form to halt their slide down the table.

The weekend’s only other action saw leaders Celtic earn a routine win over Ross County, with goals from Leigh Griffiths and Dedryck Boyata sealing a 2-0 home win.

Celtic are now three points clear of Aberdeen in the race for the title, but with the Dons travelling to Inverness as 10/11 favourites later today the race to be crowned champions looks set to continue.
