With Celtic not in action until Saturday, Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen will be desperate to close the gap on the leaders when they travel to third-placed Hearts tonight.
However, they come up against a Hearts side who have an excellent record against the Dons. The Edinburgh club have won three of the last six meetings, losing just once.
The Granite City club are also having something of a wobble on their travels, suffering defeat in two of their last four away trips, at Inverness and a resurgent Motherwell respectively.
Meanwhile, with third spot all but confirmed for the Tynecastle club, Robbie Nielson’s men appear to have taken their eye off the ball with back-to-back defeats, including a 3-0 home mauling by St Johnstone.
The Jam Tarts squad have also been hit by a virus this week with the stomach bug proving so problematic that their midweek meeting with Inverness was postponed.
Hearts are said to be prepared for tonight’s meeting with the reds, but it would be no surprise to see the home side’s energy levels sapping as the game wears on.
Jam Tarts fans can at least be heartened by the fact their side possess real quality, with the likes of nine-goal Spanish forward Juanma and defensive rock Alim Ozturk set to prove difficult foes for the Dons – provided, of course, that both are recovered from the bothersome bug.
With all that in mind, Hearts – who have scored nine goals in the first 15 minutes of games this season – may well start strong but find themselves pegged back by a Dons side.
Hearts are a 23/10 shot to manage a victory, and 11/4 to keep a clean sheet, which may prove popular, with veteran ‘keeper Neil Alexander managing to shut out the opposition in four of their last six games.
For those predicting goals at both ends, though, we’re offering a fantastic price boost on Aberdeen to win and both teams to score – was 3/1 now 4/1!
