Though everybody plays the same teams the same number of times before the split, timing can be an all-important factor. And for Dundee, timing might just have offered up a handy opportunity when Rangers visit.
The Glasgow giants have recently endured an acrimonious split with former boss Mark Warburton and in total Rangers have won just one of their last five Ladbrokes Premiership fixtures.
And after only narrowing defeating Paul Hartley’s men in the two previous clashes this season, the hosts could be well-worth backing at 17/4.
It remains to be seen who will take over at Ibrox, with Alex McLeish the favourite. But either way, they won’t be in charge here.
Rangers have won only two of their last five on the road, while Dundee, after starting the season with just six points from 11 games, have proven much better ever since.
In total, Hartley’s charges have been defeated in only five of their last 13 fixtures – and all of those losses came away from Dens Park.
Indeed Dundee haven’t lost on their home patch since October.
Joe Garner and the evergreen Kenny Miller share first goalscorer favouritism at 7/2, but the form man as far as this fixture is concerned is Harry Forrester.
The 26-year-old netted a last-minute winner in a 1-0 win at Ibrox in November, and bagged the opener in the visit to Dens Park back in August. 6/1 says the Englishman breaks the deadlock yet again.
But Dundee are a vastly improved outfit since Rangers’ last visit, and we wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if they took something from this afternoon’s fixture.
And the Double Chance on Dundee and Draw at 5/4 is our best bet of the game.
