Aberdeen’s Niall McGinn named player of the month

Aberdeen’s perfect start to the Ladbrokes Premiership season may be a distant memory, with the Dons losing their last three games in all competitions but one player is out to prove the Pittodrie side can rediscover that winning feeling.

Niall McGinn has been named Ladbrokes Premiership Player of the Month for September after a series of top notch displays.

The Northern Ireland winger scored one goal and set up a David Goddwillie brace in the impressive 3-1 win away to Hearts on September 20 and also set up Paul Quinn’s winner against Celtic earlier in the month.

McGinn has carried his form onto the international scene, where he has played a huge part in helping Northern Ireland silence their doubters by topping their group to qualify for Euro 2016.

Dons star McGinn with his Ladbrokes silverware

However, attention now turns back to the domestic agenda and McGinn will hope his form continues as Aberdeen look to upset the odds in the Scottish top flight.

Celtic remain the heavy favourites to retain their Premiership crown at 1/25 but after drawing first blood in the head-to-heads this season there are some suggesting Aberdeen can make good on odds of 11/1 and end Glasgow’s 31-year stranglehold on the league title.

The Dons return to league action this weekend away to Ross County and despite travelling to Victoria Park it is the visitors who go into the tie as 20/21 favourites.

Derek McInnes side will need to bounce back from two consecutive defeats but with County winning just one of their last four he will be confident of overseeing a win, especially with an in-form McGinn to call upon.
