Dunfermline Athletic manager Allan Johnston and striker Faissal El Bakhtaoui have picked up the Manager and Player of the Month awards for March respectively, in Ladbrokes League 1.

It was an incredible month for the Fife club who became the first senior team in Britain to clinch promotion, following a 3-1 win over Brechin City on 26tMarch.

The Pars were at their clinical best during this period, winning four times and drawing once – a run which included away wins at Ayr United and Cowdenbeath, as well as a 5-0 demolition of Stenhousemuir.

Johnston has continued to revitalise Dunfermline, who played with a swagger throughout March. The manager’s motivational skills and tactical nous have helped the club turn around the disappointment of last season’s seventh-placed finish in the most emphatic way possible.

El Bakhtaoui is currently the division’s joint-top scorer, and many of League 1’s defenders will be relieved to know they will not be facing the French hitman in the division next season.

The skilful striker with an unfailing eye for goal scored six times in five March matches for the Pars, including a hat-trick against Brechin City where he produced two ‘Goal of the Season’ contenders.

That was preceded by the 23-year-old netting both goals in the 2-0 win against Ayr United at Somerset Park and notching one in the mauling of Stenny. Even the most ardent Cowdenbeath fan might agree that El Bakhtaoui deserved to win this award!

The prolific Pars forward is 8/15 to finish the season as League 1’s top scorer, with Dunfermline 1/4 to beat relegation-threatened Forfar in their next outing.
