Dunfermline appeared to have the Ladbrokes League 1 title locked-up long ago, but a new challenger in Peterhead has kept things interesting at the top.

Peterhead haven’t lost since the end of October, and they host Forfar this weekend while the league-leading Pars welcome Ayr.

Basement club Brechin host Cowdenbeath and Stenhousemuir host fourth-placed Airdrie.

Here’s your weekend preview…

Brechin v Cowdenbeath

Having lost their opening five fixtures, Brechin have made a good fist of their relegation plight ever since.

Losing just two of their last six, City will fancy their chances of consigning Cowdenbeath to a fifth-successive defeat.

Cowden lost their last visit to to Glebe Park 2-0, and given recent form, City could win again.

Best Bet: Brechin to win @ 3/2

Dunfermline v Ayr

Having lead the table for much of the campaign until mid-November, Ayr have fallen away of late.

Dunfermline resumed winning ways last time out, and though Ian McCall’s men triumped on their last trip to the Pars, Allan Johnston’s outfit look well-placed to prevail this time around.

Best Bet: Dunfermline to win @ 11/20

Peterhead v Forfar

Peterhead have been on a great run of late and are unbeaten in 12 games – netting 34 times.

They’ve faced Dunfermline three times and not been beaten, while Forfar are now 19 games without victory.

The sides shared a 2-2 draw in the last meeting at Balmoor, but in light of recent endeavours, a home win is on the cards this time.

Best Bet: Peterhead -1 @ Evens

Stenhousemuir v Airdrie

Airdrie are on a roll winning three and drawing one of their last four contests, including a 1-0 success at the league leaders.

Stenhousemuir have won both of this season’s clashes however, but having conceded an average of over two goals a game at home, Airdrie could profit with Stenny scoring just once in their last four at Ochilview Park.

Best Bet: Airdrie to win @ 11/8

Stranraer v Albion

Three wins and a draw have eased any fears Stranraer may have had of slipping into a relegation battle, while Albion ended a four-game losing streak at Cowdenbeath last time out.

Away sides have prevailed in each of the two meetings this term, but Stanraer’s four clean sheets in six matches could be the difference against an Albion side with just one shut-out in 11.

Best Bet: Stranraer to win @ 3/2
