Ayr United duo clean up September’s Ladbrokes League 1 awards

They may have gone under the radar somewhat this season thanks to Dunfermline’s headline grabbing goalscorers, but Ayr United have been rewarded for their excellent form in September by sweeping all aside for the Ladbrokes Player and Manager of the Month awards.

Ian McCall led United to three wins and a draw last month, with the Honest Men now unbeaten in eight games in the league since the opening weekend of the season.

A 5-0 win over Cowdenbeath last time out showed that September’s run was no lucky streak either, and only Rangers can claim a longer unbeaten stretch in the Ladbrokes SPFL.

The 51-year-old has a wealth of experience to call upon from his time at clubs such as Dundee United, Falkirk, Queen of the South and Partick, and has turned the club around since taking charge in January.

Meanwhile club captain Nicky Devlin has also been rewarded for his excellent form with the Player of the Month gong.

Devlin delighted Ayr fans in the summer by signing a new contract, with a host of clubs pursuing the highly-rated defender.

The 21-year-old capped off a superb September with a goal in the 1-1 draw with Peterhead to maintain his side’s unbeaten streak.

Devlin has been a near ever-present since joining the club last year and has quickly become a fan favourite at Somerset Park.

The Honest Men are 4/1 to claim the Ladbrokes League 1 title this season and the way they’re playing right now, that’s a very attractive price.
