SPFL Fans’ Preview: Raith Rovers in for an exciting season

Raith to win the 16-17 Ladbrokes Championship

Welcome to the first in our series of Ladbrokes SPFL Fans’ Previews. Which teams will win their respective leagues and which players will shine and what is there to get excited about?

We’ve gathered together a selection of passionate fans to tell you how they think their team will fare ahead of the 2016-17 football season.

First up we have Liam Barnett as he previews the season ahead for his beloved Raith Rovers. He follows his team religiously home and away, as well as being one of the top dogs over at the Raith Fans’ Talk fans’ forum.

The Club:

If you could sign one star from the past…

Marvin Andrews, a big commanding centre back who won everything in the air, making him handy not only at the back but also when up for corners, similar to our recent signing Jean-Yves M’Voto.

I’m most excited about this season because…

The Fife derbies against Dunfermline are back! Also, more matches against Hibs and additional matches against Dundee United will make for another exciting season ahead.

I’m least excited about this season because…

The worry of how we will do under a manager that currently has a proven record of failure. However, so far with the League Cup group ties I am being happily proved wrong!

Two songs that define your side?

Firstly, Giant – I Can’t Get Close Enough (because when going for promotion we always fall at the final hurdle!) and secondly, Periphery – The Price Is Wrong.

Actor that would play your gaffer in a film and why?

Sylvester Stallone (Rocky style). On the ropes (in this case from negative reactions from fans) but fighting back brilliantly!

The Players:

Key Player?

Lewis Vaughan. Still a young player but shows on a regular basis what he can do. Capable of causing problems for even the biggest teams in the league. Unfortunately, he was plagued by injury for a lot of last season but thankfully on loan Ryan Hardie stepped up to the mark nicely.

Weak links?

While our defence can be good at clearing their lines, they are still looking shaky when the ball arrives in the box.

Headline Generator?

Iain Davidson, for both his on-field and off-field antics!

Young player to watch this season?

Declan McManus, recently signed on loan from Fleetwood. He’s only 21 but has already had a spell at Aberdeen and a loan spell at Morton. He looked impressive on his debut in Dingwall.

League Predictions:

Your position?

Title winner?

2nd Place?

Ayr United

Top Goalscorer pick?

James Keatings (Hibs)

Surprise team of the season?

I guess Falkirk as I seem to be the only one that doesn’t think Hibs or Dundee United will win the title.
