We may only be five games in, but Rangers are beginning to pull out a sizeable gap at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship, and they’re yet to drop a point.
They host bottom club Livingston this weekend, while Hibernian look to get back in amongst the leading pack at home to Alloa and Morton host Dumbarton seeking a third successive win.
Here’s your weekly preview…
Hibernian v Alloa
Away defeats at Dumbarton and Rangers have stunted Hibernian’s start to the season, but at home they’ve every reason to feel confident this weekend.
Hibs have won both home games thus far to nil, while Alloa only picked up their first points of the season last time out at Dumbarton.
Alan Stubbs’ side prevailed in both clashes at Easter Road last season, including a 4-1 rout at the end of April.
Alloa’s away record reads just four wins from 41 Championship matches in addition to currently possessing the league’s leakiest defence.
Best Bet: Hibernian/Hibernian at 11/8
Greenock Morton v Dumbarton
Morton are enjoying a good little run at the moment, winning their last two and picking up seven points from a possible nine.
They could well add to that too as they welcome a Dumbarton side trying to end a run of three straight defeats.
The Sons did prevail 3-2 in a League Cup meeting at Cappielow Park in July, but since then Morton have got their act together while winning form has deserted Stephen Aitken’s men.
Jim Duffy’s Morton won both home meetings without conceding last season, and a repeat is possible.
Best Bet: Morton to win to nil at 5/2
Raith Rovers v Queen of the South
Raith Rovers and Queen of the South enter this match in similar situations.
The sides have lost their last two matches, with Rovers coming up against Rangers and Hibs, and Queens losing to St Mirren and, you guessed it, Rangers.
Continuing the similarities, both sides put three past Alloa, while Raith also put three past Livingston and QoS took a 1-0 win at the bottom club.
James Fowler’s boys won three of the four clashes last season, but just to confuse things, Raith took the most recent meeting 3-0 back in April.
Two mid-table sides who will both eye three points but would quite happily take a draw to end their losing ruts.
Best Bet: Draw @ 23/10
Rangers v Livingston
After five straight defeats, a trip to Ibrox is the last thing Livingston need right now.
Rangers are on fire this season, and they seem to be improving. They’ve won every game this season and claimed their last two victories by an aggregate score of 10-1.
With nothing to lose, Livi can only hope to frustrate their hosts and who knows, maybe they can grab a result. Stranger things have happened.
But they conceded four at home to Morton last weekend, and methodical Mark Warburton is unlikely to allow his Gers’ to let up any steam just yet.
Livingston’s season could yet get a little bit worse before it gets better.
Best Bet: Rangers -3 @ 21/10
St Mirren v Falkirk
The five point gap between Falkirk and Rangers is somewhat skewed with the Bairns still having a game in hand.
Despite three wins on the spin, they’re arguably heading to St Mirren a couple of weeks too late.
After losing their opening two fixtures, Saints are unbeaten in their last three games.
Under Ian Murray, the Buddies have taken five points from the last possible nine, culminating in their first win of the campaign last time out.
While neither side have been troubling the scoring charts too much, Falkirk have netted in every game while St Mirren have only failed to do so once.
But with neither outfit scoring more than twice in a game, this is set up for a low-scoring encounter.
Best Bet: Correct Score 1-1 at 5/1
