Dundee United’s Stewart Murdoch has hailed Ray McKinnon as the Arabs manager sets about helping return the club to the Ladbrokes Premiership.

The midfield man is one of seven new players McKinnon has brought to Tannadice since replacing Mixu Paatelainen back in May.

And the Scot has brought about an immediate upturn in form. United have lost just one of their opening eight games across league and cup this season, picking up five wins.

Murdoch says his new boss has impressed.

In an exclusive chat with Ladbrokes News, said of McKinnon: “He’s been brilliant. He’s all about getting on the pitch, working hard and earning that right to go and play.”

Dundee-born McKinnon is already a popular figure among the United support from his two separate playing spells at Tannadice.

And United’s strong start to the new campaign has only added to his reputation.

Murdoch believes a part of McKinnon will be hurting after United’s relegation to the Championship last season.

“With him being a Dundee guy and playing at United, I think the last 18 months have maybe hurt him a bit looking in on the club,” the former Falkirk man told us.

“He’s made the decision with his head to become the manager, but I would imagine it’s probably a bit of heart as well and he wants to get us back to where he wants us to be and that’s the Premiership.”

Murdoch insists the new manager and team are going the right way about trying to achieve an immediate return to the top-flight.

“He’s set in his way in that he’s got his formation and if you’re not working hard within that then you won’t play.”

“He’s got a vision for where he wants to take the team and the club.”

The Arabs’ next step towards returning to the Ladbrokes Premiership sees them host McKinnon’s old club, Raith, and United are 8/11 to maintain their excellent start with another three points.
