Strap yourselves in for another exciting weekend of SPFL football. There are positions to be fought for, records to be protected and lots of goals to be scored! But if you’re struggling to decide who and what to back, then fear not, as Ladbrokes News have compiled a list of the five best bets for the weekend.
And we begin at the very top of the pile…
Queen of the South v Morton
Queen of the South will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend with a victory at home to Morton, although the visitors have won the last two fixtures between these two sides.
The Doonhamers are a point clear at the top of the league, despite back-to-back 0-0 draws.
You’d have to go back to February 2006 to find the last time QotS drew two consecutive games without scoring. Their following result? A 2-1 victory at home. We’re fancying history to repeat itself.
Top Bet: QotS to win 2-1 @ 7/1
Raith Rovers v Hibernian
Despite an incredible start which saw them pick up maximum points from their opening trio of games, Raith Rovers’ form has dried up somewhat of late, winning just one of their last six in all competitions.
Not exactly the kind of momentum you want heading into a fixture against the title favourites.
Although that being said, Hibernian themselves are winless in four.
But failing to win this weekend could see them some four points off the table-topping Doonhamers, meaning three points are a must for Neil Lennon’s side.
Top Bet: Hibernian -1 @ 7/4
Brechin City v Alloa Athletic
While both sides are riding high in the table, they each boast defences with a tendency to concede.
Alloa have both scored and conceded in six of their last eight outings, while Brechin have seen goals at both ends five times already this season.
Interestingly though, of those 11 games combined, only one has finished as a draw. That makes the most likely outcome of this game being either side to win with both teams scoring.
Given that Brechin have the home advantage, our money is going on Darren Dods’ men.
Top Bet: Brechin to win and BTTS @ 3/1
Arbroath v Forfar Athletic
A defeat last time out in the league to Montrose took everyone at Forfar by surprise, as it was the first time Gary Bollan’s men had dropped any points this season.
But they still have an impressive away record to protect, winning their last four on the road.
They’ve not been the most convincing of performances, however, only managing victories by a margin of one goal on their travels.
So while we’re expecting the league leaders to grab all three points in this fixture, we reckon it’ll be a close tie.
Top Bet – Forfar Athletic to win by one goal @ 13/4
Edinburgh City v Clyde
While they’re still looking for their first win in professional Scottish football, scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for Edinburgh City – at least not at home.
In fact, only three sides in the league have scored more than the Citizens on home soil this season, who’ve found the net on seven occasions.
While they’re 33/10 outsiders to win this one, there could be some value in the 2/1 on offer for Gary Jardine’s men to score two or more goals.
Top Bet: Edinburgh City to score over 1.5 goals @ 2/1
