The Ladbrokes SPFL is well and truly underway and the league tables are starting to take shape as we head into the sixth round of fixtures. Some sides just can’t stop winning, while others are still looking for their first three points of the season. But who makes our list of things to look out for over the weekend?
Find out below…
What better place to start than with August’s Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month? The 21-year-old has been in incredible form so far this season, scoring seven goals in five league games.
And don’t be surprised if he adds to that tally this weekend, as Hibernian welcome newly-promoted Ayr United to Easter Road.
Ayr have managed just four points from their opening five games this campaign, conceding 11 goals in the process, a number that no other side in the division can beat.
Cummings will certainly fancy his chances of grabbing a couple of goals against that leaky defence, and if he does, there’s every chance the Hibees can maintain their 100 per cent record this season.
Best Bet – Jason Cummings to score two or more goals @ 11/4
Forfar are on fire
While we’re on the subject of 100 per cent records, a quick glance down the tables will tell you that Hibs aren’t the only side yet to drop a point this season. It’s a record held by Gary Bollan’s Forfar Athletic too.
They’re 8/5 to lift the Ladbrokes League 2 title, and having already established a five-point gap on their nearest rivals Clyde, there’s certainly some value in that market.
Forfar are up against Stirling Albion this weekend at home, having not lost against the Binos in nine games. In fact, the last time these two sides met was back in March 2015, where Forfar ran out 4-0 winners.
It’s 20/1 for a repeat of that result.
Best Bet – HT/FT Forfar/Forfar @ 27/20
Edinburgh City can build on first point
Last week was a historic one for Edinburgh City as they won their first ever point in the Ladbrokes SPFL.
And it’s something they can build on this weekend as they welcome fellow strugglers Montrose to Meadowbank.
Both sides are still looking for their first win of the season, but the momentum will certainly be with the League’s newboys.
We fancy the home side to win this one, but it’ll certainly be a close game.
Best Bet – Edinburgh City to win @ 31/20
Title-favourites Alloa can top the table
While Jack Ross’ Alloa Athletic side will be in action themselves on Saturday afternoon, Wasps fans will undoubtedly be keeping their eyes peeled for any developments in the meeting between top-of-the-table Brechin City and third-place Livingston.
A win for Alloa at Queens Park (something which they’ve done on the last three visits) and a draw between Brechin and Livingston will see the Clackmannanshire outfit return to the top of the table.
Alloa have won both of their away games in the league this season, scoring two in each match, while Queen’s Park have scored in both of their home fixtures this campaign.
Best Bet – Alloa to win and BTTS @ 12/5
Dundee United won’t want gap at the top to widen
Before a ball was kicked this season, Dundee United were 13/8 joint-favourites to win the Ladbrokes Championship.
Fast-forward five games and they’re already seven points behind league leaders Hibernian.
And while Neil Lennon’s men are 2/7 favourites to win this weekend against Ayr, Dundee United face a difficult trip to Falkirk, where the home side will also be looking for three points to help them with their own promotion push.
This is probably the game of the weekend in the SPFL, and with so much at stake, we can’t see either side losing it.
Best Bet – Draw @ 13/5
