Siddal may have put in the performance of the Second Round in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, brushing aside Pilkington Recs by a 34-10 scoreline. But this time around, they were no match for tournament newboys Toronto Wolfpack.

The fledgling Canadian outfit were only formed in 2016, but with a host of impressive talents already among their ranks, they were firm favourites against Siddal on a muddy afternoon in West Yorkshire.

As many expected, the transatlantic outfit took the lead, with American Ryan Burroughs scoring their first competitive try on these shores – but the hosts then took a shock second-half lead after Gareth Blackburn got over the line.

However, the visitors came storming back with tries from Greg Worthington and Adam Sidlow, to secure victory. But it’s Burroughs try which will go down in the Wolfpack history books.

Cougars chalk up a nifty 50 at Fryston

Keighley Cougars had to dig deep to secure victory at Fryston, with the scores locked at 22-22 in the second half – before a spell of three tries in five minutes helped the League 1 side edge out their opponents in a high-scoring clash.

The visitors’ range of attacking talent was summed up by the fact that eight different players scored their nine tries – with super sub-Sean Kelly the man to notch up a pair of them.

However, credit to the underdogs who played a big part in making this a cracking tie, though it was the visitors who progress after a 50-32 win.

Oxford too strong for Ironmen in Merthyr

Oxford and South Wales Ironmen finished level on points in the League 1 regular season in 2016, but it was the Blues who ended the campaign better, following three wins in the Shield – and they’ve built on that feat with an impressive start to this Ladbrokes Challenge Cup campaign.

The visitors were stronger throughout in an 18-4 victory at The Wern in Merthyr Tydfil, with Oxford’s Casey Canterbury opening the scoring, and went in 8-4 up at the break, before a pair of neat second-half tries saw them progress to Round Four.

Skolars surge scuppers Hemel hopes

London Skolars impressed at Pennine Way Stadium, as they left hosts Hemel in their wake, racking up a 12-0 half-time lead, before eventually going on to win 22-12.

Charlie Lawrence was their man of the hour, producing one try and kicking successfully following three others. And while the opponents staged a decent second-half fightback, the Skolars were well worth the victory.
