BARACK OBAMA has been shunned by punters in the US Presidential race betting, according to Ladbrokes.

Obama is now a 1/1 chance to be re-elected having been as short as 1/2 in the summer as punters reflect on gloomy economic news, which sees Rick Perry and Mitt Romney (7/2 each) both close in on the current president. Hillary Clinton is also a surprise springer in the market as her odds are slashed from 66/1 to 25/1.

It’s also now 10/11 each the Republicans or the Democrats which signals the first time the Democrats haven’t been clear favourites since Obama’s 2008 election win.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Obama looked home and hosed earlier in the year and we took some chunky bets on the back of that. He’s since been deserted by punters who now feel the Republicans are picking up the pace at the right time.”

He added: “Hillary Clinton is also at the centre of a surprise gamble in the race for presidency. We can’t read too much into it at this stage but whilst Obama looks uncertain punters believe the value now lies elsewhere.”
