A £1 PUNTER has become Scotland’s first ever betting shop millionaire after scooping the giant pot at his local Ladbrokes.

The Borders-based punter who only plays the daily numbers draw won the record breaking fortune from a single £1 bet – but took over a day before he realised his million pound fortune.

When every one of his lucky numbers came up on the Ladbrokes shop screen the punter mistakenly thought he had won £100,000.

He left the shop and returned the following day to see a celebratory screen informing him of his cool million quid windfall. The incredible amount breaks the existing record for a betting shop win in the country and makes the lucky Scot a member of the elite ‘Betting Shop Millionaire’ group.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “He’s lived the dream of every small-stakes punter in the land.

“It’s one of the most incredible episodes we’ve ever known. We’re thrilled to bits for him and hope he enjoys his massive jackpot.”

The mystery punter was playing Lunchtime 49’s, where customers select 6 numbers for the live televised game available in Ladbrokes shops twice a day.

The lucky numbers in full: 3,13,23,33,43,44
