After six weeks out and one major missed Rory McIlroy is set to make his return to competitive golf this week in the US PGA Championship. But is he returning from injury too soon?
The Northern Irishman enters the tournament as a 12/1 shot, as he looks to wrestle this year’s dominance away from competition favourite Jordan Spieth.
He suggests he is “100 per cent ready” to defend the title he won last year at Valhalla, and time will tell whether that is the case.
McIlroy posted these photos on his Instagram account showing the progress he has made since a friendly kick around resulted in a serious ankle injury.
One suspects that a return for the final major of the season was on the cards whether he was in the best possible shape but what do you think?
Is Rory’s return to the course coming too soon? Or would you rather the two-time winner of the tournament kept his feet up a little bit longer? Vote now in today’s poll.
McIlroy will have mixed memories of the Wisconsin course after his previous outing there in 2010.
He came into his final round tied for second, three shots off Nick Watney’s lead, and was looking good for a share of the spoils at the top, until three-putting the 15th, claiming a bogey and dropping back down the leaderboard.
Retribution will be on his mind this weekend, but will he be the same player so soon after serious injury?
