Poll Reaction: No surprise – Chelsea tipped to top the table early on

Chelsea are the team most likely to get off to a fast start in the Premier League and top the table at the end of August.

That is according to the latest poll from Ladbrokes News, which saw the Blues gain 30 per cent of the votes when we asked who the new fixture list had been kindest to.

Apart from a trip to the Etihad to face last year’s runners-up, Jose Mourinho’s men look set to lay down an early marker with home ties against Swansea and Crystal Palace sandwiching a trip to the Hawthorns.

Locked together in second place are Manchester United and Arsenal, with both sides looking to build on stronger campaigns last time out.

United face Aston Villa and Swansea away – games that yielded just one point in total last season – and welcome Tottenham and Newcastle to Old Trafford.

However, confidence in the Red Devils is clearly on the rise, with 26 per cent of our voters expecting them to be top after four games.

The same number of voters are backing Arsenal to top the pile early on, with Gunners fans expecting derby wins over West Ham and Palace and impressive displays on the road to Liverpool and Newcastle.

Next in the voting, with just 11 per cent, is City. With Chelsea at home and Everton and West Brom away to start many expect Manuel Pellegrini’s side to have dropped a few points before they travel to West Brom at the end of the month.

And bringing up the rear are Southampton with nine per cent of the votes. The Saints came out the blocks at a blistering pace last season and the St Mary’s side will look to show new boys Watford and Norwich that they are a top flight force to be reckoned with.

Games against slow starting Everton and Newcastle sides could mean another great start for Ronald Koeman’s men, but the voting suggests there will be at least four teams better off by September.
