League One Shrewsbury Town could stun Sunderland with a win at the Stadium of Light in tonight’s EFL Cup clash.

That’s the verdict of today’s Ladbrokes Twitter poll, which posed the question of which underdogs have the best chance of causing a memorable cup upset tonight.

A whopping 44 per cent of voters backed the Shrews as the most likely side to produce a ‘cupset’, as they travel to Wearside on the back of a 2-1 victory against Chesterfield on Saturday.

Despite being the longest odds of today’s four choices, there’s good reason our followers are backing the 11/1 Shrews against a Sunderland side who have lost their first two games of the campaign.

And Black Cats boss David Moyes has already experienced a cup defeat to Salop as a manager, with Everton losing 2-1 to the Shropshire outfit back in 2003.

Fulham were second in the running, with 35 per cent of voters backing the Craven Cottage outfit for a third home win in four meetings with Middlesbrough at 11/4 – a record which suggests a victory for the west London club wouldn’t be a huge upset.

11 per cent backed Bournemouth to fall foul of Morecambe, but while the Cherries did fall to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of the Lancashire outfit back in 2009, Eddie Howe’s current crop are a hugely different proposition these days.

On the flipside, the Shrimps are in red-hot form right now and sit top of League Two, so it’s far from impossible that the hosts can make it four wins on the bounce tonight.

Accrington Stanley bring up the rear with 10 per cent, with few seemingly believing they can upset the odds with victory over local rivals Burnley.

While the 11/1 on Shrewsbury looks likely to tempt many of today’s voters, there could be even better value in backing Micky Mellon’s men to secure a third 2-1 win of the season at 28/1.
