Half & half scarves are officially the worst thing in football, according to the latest poll from Ladbrokes News.
After seeing the cringeworthy song sheets handed out to fans of newly-formed MLS side New York City FC, we decided to ask you about the parts of the game that send a shudder down your spine and the double scarves won by a landslide – taking a whopping 46 per cent of the votes.
Goal music completed the top three and when you can hear the dulcet tones of Tine Tempah and the like above – or instead of – the roar of the crowd it’s clear something has gone terribly wrong.
That was the view of 15 per cent of our voters, pushing the good old-fashioned Mexican wave into fourth place with 12 per cent.
But while the time honoured tradition of standing up on cue at international matches emerged relatively unscathed, it is still more irksome than the trend of interactive team announcements.
Not content with getting an audible “wahey” after naming each player, some announcers have taken to pausing after the first name to encourage the crowd to respond in a sort of “when I say ‘Joey’, you say ‘Barton’” kind of way.
This trend divided the Ladbrokes News office, with some saying it’s fine everywhere, some inexplicably saying it only works in Germany and some not caring enough to glance away from their screens.
But with not a single vote it seems that the majority of football fans are happy for failed local radio DJs the world over to get their thrills just before kick-off!
