POLL: Pep is the man to lead Man United after Van Gaal

He may only be third favourite in the betting, but Pep Guardiola is the man who should succeed Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

That’s the view according to the voters on today’s Ladbrokes News poll, who say the current Bayern Munich boss is the man who United should seek out as and when Van Gaal departs the Old Trafford hotseat.

Speculation over who will be the next manager at the Theatre of Dreams has increased this week with Van Gaal reportedly considering retiring at the end of the current campaign.

Some 39 per cent of you voted for Spaniard Guardiola to take charge at Old Trafford, and the ex-Barca coach – 8/1 third favourite with Ladbrokes – has set tongues wagging after publicly announcing his intention to manage in the Premier League in the very near future.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is 11/10 favourite for the job in Manchester, and it seems you think those odds are pretty reasonable with 29 per cent of you saying the Portuguese is United’s man.

Third place went to Van Gaal’s current understudy Ryan Giggs – second favourite for the role at 2/1 – with 23 per cent of you saying the time is right for the Red Devils legend to take the hotseat on a permanent basis.

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone is also in contention at 16s, but it remains to be seen what impact, if any, Atletico’s impending transfer ban has on the Argentine’s intentions. Just eight per cent of you fancy the former midfielder for the role.

And what about former England chief Fabio Capello?

The Italian is out of work following his departure from the Russian national team last year, but it seems the 14/1 shot isn’t fancied by the Ladbrokes News voters with just one per cent of you thinking Capello will be the next man in the Old Trafford dugout.
