Even Mystic Meg with her finest premonition couldn’t have come close to predicting how this Premier League campaign has turned out, but amongst all the drama have been some pretty woeful transfer signings.
While Leicester, Chelsea and Manchester United have largely hogged the headlines for vastly differing reasons, today we want to discuss the league’s biggest flops this season.
Much was made of Memphis Depay’s arrival at Old Trafford, but has the Dutch winger actually achieved all that much? Is he part of why United have struggled for goals this term? The 21-year-old has bagged just twice in the league.
Similar optimism was held down in Stamford Bridge when Chelsea unveiled the signing of Barcelona ace Pedro.
Since scoring on his debut however, the Spaniard has netted just once for the reigning champions.
Pedro’s tally of two is still double that of his west London team-mate Falcao however.
Jose Mourinho believed he could produce in the Colombian what Manchester United couldn’t. But now Jose is gone and the striker has just one goal to his name.
Still, it could be worse. Neither Patrick Bamford or Eder have scored at all for Crystal Palace and Swansea respectively.
After firing in the goals for Middlesbrough last season, Bamford’s loan-deal to Selhurst promised great things, but a lack of game time looks set to bring the partnership to a premature end in the coming weeks.
And as for Eder, the £5m signing from Sporting Braga is quickly becoming the most unknown man at the Liberty Stadium, let alone in the Premier League.
Two starts and 10 cameos off the bench has seen the Portuguese international become firmly a bit-part player in south Wales.
So there are your five forward flops of this season’s Premier League. But who deserves to win today’s poll as the worst of the lot?
