Manchester United to be the top North West club

It’s been a busy 24 hours in Manchester, with both clubs spending just short of £150m combined, and following the arrival of John Stones to Man City and Paul Pogba to United, we asked our Twitter followers who they thought the better signing would be.

And out of two of football’s worst kept secrets, we can reveal it is Paul Pogba who won this one fairly comfortably with 72 per cent of the vote.

23-year-old Pogba will be returning to Old Trafford after leaving the Red Devils to join Juventus back in 2012, and he’s had a busy four years with the Turin outfit.

In that time he’s won four Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias and a Champions League runners-up medal, while also receiving the Golden Boy award in 2013, as well as being named the Best Young Player at the FIFA 2014 World Cup.

It’s perhaps no shock then that new United boss Jose Mourinho has splashed out £89m – breaking the world record transfer fee in the process – to secure the Frenchman’s services.

Meanwhile, the blue half of Manchester has seen no less than seven arrivals this summer – but undoubtedly the most notable is 22-year-old centre-back John Stones who received just 28 per cent of today’s vote.

The former Everton defender was close to joining up with Chelsea this time last year and has since been linked with Barcelona, so for the Barnsley-born boy to opt for a move to the Etihad says a lot about what he thinks the club can achieve..

Deals for Stones and Pogba have seen this summer’s total spend in the Premier League rise to a staggering £780m, with the two Manchester clubs contributing £319m combined, although it’s unlikely Mourinho or Guardiola will be looking to strengthen their squads any further.
