Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the man best placed to pick up the pieces at Stamford Bridge and take Chelsea forward, according to Ladbrokes News’ latest poll.
The champions have suffered their worst season in the Roman Abramovich era – and further back – and still languish in the bottom half of the table.
A disastrous start saw the beloved Jose Mourinho relieved of his Chelsea duties for a second time and Guus Hiddink has been hired in the interim to steady the ship.
However, fans are still in the dark as to who will be in charge next season but the Ladbrokes readers are in little doubt, with Simone commanding 55 per cent of the total votes in today’s poll.
Italy manager Antonio Conte has been heavily linked with the role in recent days and while the former Juventus gaffer was the second-most popular answer in our poll, with just 18 per cent of the votes he is clearly far behind Simeone on the list of preferred candidates.
Completing the top three is former Southampton boss and current Tottenham man Mauricio Pochettino, but with just nine per cent of the votes the younger Argentine might be one for the future.
Mark Hughes is another Premier League boss linked with the role but the former Blues striker has a long way to go before he would be welcomed back in a coaching capacity, with just six per cent voting for the former Manchester United striker.
Jorge Sampaoli and Massimiliano Allegri brought up the rear with five per cent of the votes each but it seems the pair have a better chance than many with just two per cent believing the best man from the job is someone other than those listed.
Sampaoli is the 7/4 favourite, with Conte not far behind on 7/2. However, with Hiddink third favourite at 7/1 we could already be looking at the next permanent manager of Chelsea, whether the fans like it or not.
