Everton defender Antolin Alcaraz had a night to forget in the Europa League and he won’t be allowed to get over it in a hurry after topping the latest Ladbrokes poll.

Ladbrokes News  asked you to name the worst defensive performance of all time and the Toffees man took the poll by a landslide with a whopping 76 per cent of the votes.

His shambolic defending, which saw Dynamo Kiev smash five past the Everton rearguard, was deemed worse than some horror debuts from Jonathan Woodgate and Mikael Silvestre and some memorable – for all the wrong reasons – performances from David Luiz, Per Mertesacker and Igors Stepanovs.

Woodgate and Luiz were joint second with eight per cent each after the former Real Madrid man scored an own goal and picked up two yellows in his Los Blancos debut against Athletic Bilbao.

Luiz entered the hall of shame for being at the heart of the Brazil defence that was smashed 7-1 by Germany at the World Cup.

Mertesacker, on the winning side that night in Belo Horizonte, was next in the voting with four per cent for his dismal display against Monaco in the Gunners’ recent 3-1 defeat against the Principality club.

Next up was former Manchester United star Silvestre, who played a part in all three New York Red Bull goals as his Portland Timbers debut went balls up and picked up three per cent of the overall vote.

And finally, Arsenal fans seem to have forgiven Igors Stepanovs for the day he couldn’t get close to Dwight Yorke who scored a hat-trick in a now infamous 6-1 loss to Manchester United.
