Emily Thornberry is the new favourite to become the next permanent leader of the Labour party at odds of 6/1.
The MP for Islington South and Finsbury impressed political punters in Brighton at the party’s annual conference. That’s seen her overtake Keir Starmer at the head of the betting to replace Jeremy Corbyn.
However, Starmer remains second-favourite, despite the 55-year-old drifting to 8/1.
He’s followed by Clive Lewis and Dan Jarvis, who are available at 12/1 apiece.
Shadow Education Secretary Angela Rayner has also proved popular over the past few days, with her leadership odds cut from 20/1 to 16/1.
The Stockport native now finds herself alongside the likes of Chuka Umunna, John McDonnell and Yvette Cooper at 16s.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Punters are raving about Thornberry, and her performance in Brighton has seen her surge to the top of the market.”
