Tony Blair to be next Labour leader

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair is 50/1 to be the next leader of the Labour party, according to the latest odds.

Blair’s latest Brexit intervention has triggered a wave of long-odds bets on the former PM coming back to lead the party.

However, Blair still has 18 candidates ahead of him according to the betting.

The odds of a Blair leadership comeback have contracted within the last year however, with 200/1 the price offered in February 2016.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “There still appears to be quite a long way to go according to the betting, but today’s speech has brought about renewed enthusiasm in Blair leading the Labour party once again.”

Current leader Jeremy Corbyn could come under increased pressure next week, with Labour under-fire to keep hold of Stoke-On-Trent Central and Copeland in the upcoming by-elections.

The Conservatives are 4/11 to take the Cumbrian seat, while Labour face a UKIP challenge to land Stoke.

And it’s just 2/1 that Corbyn sees his party lose both seats on February 23.
